Seattle Kraken Lose to New York Rangers in Overtime.

Seattle Kraken Lose to New York Rangers in Sixth Overtime match this season.

Despite the setback, the Rangers maintained control across key metrics: they outshot the Kraken 16 to 9, delivered a commanding 17 hits to the Kraken’s 6, and dominated the faceoff circle with 30 wins to just 14. Both teams matched each other in penalty minutes at 4:00 apiece, including a minor assessed to Ryan Lindgren. The Rangers also edged the Kraken in power-play chances, 3 to 2, underscoring their aggressive push throughout the period. Though the scoreboard didn’t reflect their effort, the Rangers clearly dictated the pace.

The third period opened with the Kraken on a power play, but the Rangers quickly reasserted their dominance across the board. As the clock ticked down, New York steadily widened the gap in key stats, finishing with 25 shots on goal to Seattle’s 10, 24 hits to 11, and a commanding 39 faceoff wins compared to the Kraken’s 25.

Despite the physicality, penalty minutes remained relatively balanced, with the Rangers logging 4:00 and the Kraken 6:00. Power play opportunities stayed unchanged at three for the Rangers and two for the Kraken. Throughout the period, the Rangers maintained control, tightening their grip on the game with consistent pressure and disciplined play.

Power play opportunities stayed unchanged at 3 for the Rangers and 2 for the Kraken. Amid the Rangers’ statistical control, Brandon Montour delivered a standout moment for Seattle, scoring his third goal in two games with a blistering slap shot, assisted by Jaden Schwartz and Chandler Stephenson. The goal marked Montour’s eighth point in his last seven games, a testament to his recent offensive surge. Though the scoreboard tightened, the Rangers continued to dictate the pace with disciplined, aggressive play.

This would be the Kraken’s sixth game in OT this season. They are 2-4 in overtime, the Rangers Will Cuylle score a goal (2) with 2:18 remaining in OT, to end the game.

Knowing that Coach Lambert discussed the team’s lack of effectiveness on faceoffs earlier in the season, I was curious at what he had about them going 25 for 41 tonight.

“Well, we were 37.9% on faceoffs tonight. It’s an area we have to improve on and continue to work on,” Coach Lane Lambert said with displeasure. “It’s a pivotal area of the game, because if you’re in your own zone, you’re losing faceoffs, you’re losing opportunities, so we need to be better on faceoffs.”

These teams will meet again on January 12, when the Kraken venture on their first five-game road trip of the New Year. They face the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, November 3rd, and the Rangers will face the Carolina Hurricanes at home on Tuesday, November 4, 2026.
